#46 - Challenge Week 3 - The power of lipstick

Lily stands in front of the mirror, uncaps the lipstick, and takes a deep breath. It’s bold—a deep red, the kind that says, I know exactly what I’m doing. Even if, in reality, she doesn’t.

Carefully, she applies it, pressing her lips together before stepping back. Whoa.

Does she love it? Fear it? Hard to tell. No time to overthink. She heads downstairs, where Jack, her 17-year-old son, is sprawled on the couch, phone in hand, lost in teenage oblivion.

He glances up, then freezes. Eyes narrow. Head tilts. Silence.

Lily folds her arms. “Well?”

Jack squints. “Are you in a play?”

She exhales. “No.”

He leans in, studying her like a rare artifact. “Are you mad at someone?”

Lily sighs. “It’s just lipstick, Jack.”

Jack nods slowly. “Huh. It’s… intense.” A pause. Then, smirking: “Dad’s in trouble, isn’t he?”

Lily tosses her hair back, dramatic. “Maybe.”

Jack grins, shaking his head. “Good luck out there, Mom.”

Lily grabs her bag, bold lips, bold attitude—ready to take on the world.
