Charlie senses it immediately—something important is happening. His humans are laughing, moving faster than usual, and—most suspicious of all—heading into the garden together. Charlie is thrilled. Playtime! He races to the door, tail wagging like a metronome set to maximum excitement. Outside, the garden looks magical: colorful eggs everywhere, half-hidden, just waiting to be found. And then—Lily freezes. Dogs and chocolate are simply not a good combination, and Lily knows it. Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine, which dogs can’t process the way humans do. While we break it down quickly, it lingers in a dog’s system much longer and can become toxic—even in small amounts. It can cause anything from an upset stomach to more serious symptoms like restlessness, a racing heart, epileptic seizures and in severe cases, death. And the darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it becomes. Charlie may not understand why he’s suddenly on a leash, missing out on the great Easter hunt… but he is delighted. He stands proudly, chest out, as Lily clips the leash on—completely unaware that he has just been officially removed from the mission. While the others run, search, and laugh, Charlie trots proudly beside Lily, convinced he’s leading the entire event—blissfully unaware he’s been gently disqualified. And honestly, in his mind, this is VIP treatment.
