Autumn is cold. And Lily hates that.
She wants to go outside — she really does — but the moment she opens the door, a cold wind rushes in like it’s laughing at her. She quickly closes it again. Maybe later.
A bike tour sounded like such a great idea yesterday. Fresh air, fall colors, maybe a coffee stop halfway. But now? Now the sky looks suspicious, and the couch looks way too inviting.
Her husband Ben, of course, is already looking for his gloves. “Ready?” he asks, cheerful as ever.“Define ready,” Lily says, clutching her blanket.
But then she sighs. She knows how this goes. The hardest part is just… leaving. Once she’s out there, cheeks red, wind in her hair, she’ll feel alive. She always does. So she grabs her scarf, mutters something dramatic about frostbite, and hops on her bike. Ten minutes in, she’s laughing. The cold isn’t that bad. The colors are gorgeous.
And when they get home, wet and glowing, she feels it again — that deep, quiet satisfaction. The kind you only earn by going outside when every part of you wanted to stay in.
How about you? Are you staying in? Or going out?
